Types of Employment Opportunities

Undergraduate Federal Work Study (FWS)
Undergraduate students employed in FWS jobs receive wages subsidized by federal government funds. Eligibility for undergraduate FWS is based on your financial need and is granted to you as part of your financial aid package and based upon your filing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Eligibility for a part-time FWS job increases your consideration and hiring by on-campus and off-campus employers, but does not guarantee you a job. On-campus and off-campus jobs are limited, and employers hire quickly at the start of each semester. We recommend you access e-Recruiting , review FWS jobs and contact the employer(s) as soon as you arrive on campus.

Some additional details you should know:

On-Campus FWS Jobs
During the interview and hiring process for on-campus jobs, you will be required to complete paperwork, such as an I-9 form, and to provide documentation to the Office of Human Resources. Federal regulation requires the University obtain an "employment eligibility form" from you before working on campus. This form is called an I-9 form. If you plan to accept either a FWS position or a temporary service position on campus, you must complete an I-9 form prior to their first day of work. An I-9 form may be completed and filed with the Office of Human Resources. Such requirements assure you will be issued a paycheck for the hours you work. For more information or questions about forms and documents, please contact the Office of Human Resources at (607) 777-2122 or Couper Administration Building (AD) 244.

Off-campus FWS Jobs (Binghamton University Student Employment Initiative)
The Binghamton University Student Employment Initiative, is a collaborative program with the Office of Financial Aid Services and the Greater Binghamton/Southern Tier New York community. Just like many on-campus jobs, the program offers students meaningful off-campus work experiences with area employers, while also contributing to the local business community. All Binghamton University students who are interested in participating in this program must have FWS funding and have a willingness to work off campus and have reliable transportation. During the interview and hiring process for off-campus jobs, you will be required to complete paperwork and to provide documentation to the employer. These requirements also assure you will be issued a paycheck for the hours you work. For questions about forms and documents, please contact the employer’s Human Resources Department/Representative.

Graduate Federal Work Study (FWS)
Graduate students can apply online for positions with The Graduate School.
